Inflam Protect is a synergetic formula comprised of botanicals, quercetin (a type of flavonoid antioxidant or a plant pigment), bromelain (an anti-inflammatory enzyme), boswellia serrata, turmeric root and devil’s claw. Together this formula does wonder.
Here are a few ways I would implement this product in a supplement protocol:
- Immediately following an injury or the on-coming of an injury such as joint overused, inflamed tendons
- After an intense few days of training or long-distance event such as a marathon to aid in recovery
- People with symptoms associated to arthritis, arthrosis, and feel stiff upon awakening
It can easily be stated that inflammation is the root cause of all chronic disease. It contributes to such chronic disease as arthritis, asthma, dementia, osteoporosis, heart disease and cancer. Although this process has gotten a bad rap over the years, it is nonetheless a necessary phenomenon and integral part of the healing process.
That being said, not all inflammation has the same great benefits on our organism. There are various forms of inflammation. I will focus on a few of the most common ones.
Accute inflammation I will start with acute inflammation which is a product of trauma to your body. Acute inflammation is the response of bodily tissues to any form of irritation, injuries, infections, or disorders of the immune system. Whenever you feel pain, redness, swelling and sometimes loss of function, this is inflammation attempting to heal you. An example of this would be bumping your head while trying to get out of your car thus creating redness, swelling and inflammation.
On the other hand, the inflammation that we all try to avoid is a low grade chronic systemic inflammation that rides below the radar for years setting the conditions for a perfect storm to happen down the line. This form of inflammation is a product of poor lifestyle and environment.
Another form of inflammation that many of us can relate to would be inflammation resulting from a hard workout. As we know this causes muscle damage and breakdown that is necessary as part of the recovery process and should not be artificially supressed.
Pharmaceuticals have an application that comes at a cost with side effects ranging from liver toxicity, leaky gut and in some cases even some cardiovascular issues.
This formula contains a lot of the most popular anti-inflammatory natural ingredients. Read on to find out more about the benefits of each one:
Quercetin: There is evidence that quercetin can play an important role in managing various inflammatory health problem including endothelial dysfunction, arthritis, diabetes, etc. Flavanoid, polyphenols found in quercetin downregulate inflammatory pathways. It is also amongst the most efficient nature – derived flavanol there is demonstrating profound effects on immunity and inflammation caused by leukocytes and other intracellular signals. Here are some examples of food that are high in quercetin: apples, peppers, dark berries, cruciferous veggies, leafy greens, and citrus.
Bromelain: An enzyme that comes from the core of the pineapple. It is a potent anti-inflammatory and anti-swelling agent. It can be used to treat a variety of problems. From arthritis to joint pain all the way to digestive issues. It is also great for digestive disorders due to its ability to digest protein and improve nutrient absorption. It works well to alleviate joint pain. However, there are a few contraindications. Before using this product, I urge people who are using blood thinners to consult their doctor.
Boswellia serrata: Extract from the beswellia serrata tree, which is native from India, contains the active ingredient boswellic acids. Boswellic acids seem to act by inhibiting leukotrienis, a class of mediators of the body’s inflammatory response. Like many other compounds boswellia regulates the immune system, specifically by inhibiting certain pro-inflammatory cytokines and mediators that can damage DNA, feed tumor growth and destroy healthy cells. Some benefits of boswellia are lowered inflammation, reduced joint and arthritic pain, faster recovery time and prevention of autoimmune disease.
Curcumin: Similar to boswellic acids curcumin also demonstrate the ability to inhibit mediators of the inflammatory response such as thromboxanes and leukotrienes. It is also a potent antioxidant and protects against oxydative damage and reactive oxygen species (ROS). Curcumin has been shown to strengthen the body’s anti-inflammatory response.
Devil’s claw: An herb native to Africa. The herb is used for hardening of the arteries, arthritis, gout, muscle pain, back pain, tendonitis, chest pain and many other conditions. Devil’s claw root contains a group of compounds called the iridoid glucosides, which include harpagoside, and are anti-inflammatory. The root contains several other anti-inflammatory compounds as well. Other agents in devil’s claw root, including flavonoids and phytosterols, are antioxidants, choleretic (stimulate bile production) and antispasmodic. The combination of anti-inflammatory, antispasmodic and digestion-enhancing agents supports the uses of devil’s claw for those purposes.
